It's not an accident that Vanya's not met many people in this strange city. Since her powers came back, she's been nothing but trouble, including when she lost her memory. After the first time she always meant well, but she is both an untuned instrument and its lone, unskilled player.
She realizes she's still pulling the air in the energy around her, a very faint swirl of dust and debris. The deeper parts of her - the ones that feel things out of the spectrum of her medication and beyond the reaches of her memory - seem to try and protect her from things she doesn't understand. Which is a lot. One day she woke up a stranger to herself, abandoned by the people that needed her for the power she didn't know how to possess. She's right to be angry. It's okay to be afraid, she hears a voice say. You don't have to sit alone at the table anymore, Vanya.
A breath later, the wind is settled. There's no whining pitch in her ear. She blinks back to ordinary. The earth settles back around her.
"Then, it sounds like I interrupted you," Vanya says with a small smile. It's polite or restrained, but not unkind. "I'm sorry."
