Marcus watches Vanya for a long moment, then cracks a smile and says, "Come on, duck. Let's find a food truck or something. I'm dying for a proper taco after pretending to like those little sausages wrapped in pastry."
There's something more going on with her and while Marcus doubts very much there's a demon in this girl, he does have a responsibility to this city, to his family and his friends, to at least consider the possibility. In order to keep them safe, in order to keep her safe. And perhaps a little while longer in her company will give him a better sense of what she's holding onto.
"Neither of us really want to be here, after all," he says. "And this way we can use each other as an alibi. Of course I stayed. I was with the violinist!"
